Ooty, the “Queen of the Nilgiris”, is a year-round hill station, but the experience changes with the seasons. Here is a simple month-by-month guide to help you plan.
Summer (April–June): peak season
With pleasant 15–25°C days, summer is the most popular time to visit Ooty. It is ideal for the Ooty Botanical Garden, boating at Ooty Lake and a ride on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway. Book hotels early — this is the busiest season.
Monsoon (July–September)
The hills turn lush and green and prices drop. Expect showers and fog; great for photography and quiet getaways, though viewpoints like Doddabetta Peak may be cloud-covered.
Winter (October–March)
Cool and misty (5–20°C) — perfect for honeymooners. Carry warm clothing. Pykara Falls and the tea gardens look stunning.
